The South Central Railway (SCR) has received clearance to operate trains at a maximum speed of 130 kmph on all golden quadrilateral, golden diagonal and high-density routes. And to prevent trespassing by pedestrians, cattle and vehicles, the zone has launched a ₹3,200-crore project to install fencing and boundary walls along these tracks.

Top officials said the high-density routes, spanning 1,835 km, include key sections such as Secunderabad-Kazipet, Kazipet-Balharshah, Vijayawada-Kondapalli and Gooty-Wadi.

In addition to these routes, select 'B' category sections will also get four types of fencing and varied boundary walls depending on the location. Subways are also being constructed near stations and habitations to allow safe crossing for pedestrians, cattle and small vehicles for public convenience near habitations.

The total work covers 4,429 km — 4,019 km of fencing costing ₹2,055.52 crore and 410 km of boundary walls costing ₹1,136 crore. So far, fencing has been completed for 875 km across all divisions. The fencing is designed to be economical, strong, easy to install and safe from electrical induction due to overhead equipment. “It will completely seal the track to prevent trespassing while leaving space for offloading trolleys and railway equipment,” said SCR Chief Public Relations officer A. Sridhar.
