The historic magnitude of what the Proteas achieved just over a year ago, when they crowned themselves World Test Championship (WTC) champions, is a milestone that still fills Aiden Markram with immense pride.
“Yeah, you watch it—I reckon monthly—the highlights, the replays, whatever it is. You still try to pinch yourself as to what actually happened,” Markram told IOL in an exclusive interview following the Cricket South Africa (CSA) Awards in Sandton on Thursday evening.
Markram was instrumental in that historic final against Australia at Lord’s, anchoring the chase with a sublime 136 in the second innings to steer South Africa to ultimate glory.
While that match-winning century meant the world to the 31-year-old personally, he admits the moments that followed are what will truly stay with him forever.
