Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty welcomed comedian Lucy Beaumont onto the BBC show09:01, 17 Jul 2026BBC Breakfast’s Charlie Stayt was left feeling “tense” during an "awkward" interview.‌During Friday’s (July 17) episode of the BBC show, Charlie and co-host Naga Munchetty made a return to our TV screens as they presented the day's top stories from the UK and beyond.‌However it was one segment that sparked major reaction from viewers watching at home as the duo welcomed Lucy Beaumont onto the show.‌The comedian, 42, appeared on the show to promote her new stand up show inspired by her being bad at quizzes.One of her most memorable television moments happened during an appearance on Michael McIntyre’s The Wheel back in 2024, when her incorrect advice cost a contestant a massive jackpot.‌At the time, Lucy was the expert on chocolate but gave advice on another topic that led to the contestant losing £98,000.She also famously caused chaos while on Celebrity Mastermind after making no effort to answer any questions for her specialist subject and it has now been recorded as one of lowest general knowledge rounds.Hosts Charlie and Naga wasted no time questioning the comedian on her quiz moments but just minutes in the interview took an “awkward” turn and viewers were left “cringing”.‌Naga turned to Charlie and pointed out: “I’ve worked next to this man for a very long time and I can feel you getting tense because you hate quizzes like this and I think he sympathises with you.”Referring to a clip of her Celebrity Mastermind, which was shown on air, Lucy said: “Whenever I do publicity, they always show that clip - it’s torture for me.”‌Naga quickly issued an apology as she jumped in: “Oh, I’m sorry.” Lucy replied: “No it’s alright. I’ve got over it now. It’s fine, it’s fine.”Charlie asked: “Do you mind talking about it more, is it alright?” Lucy asked: “Talking about being bad at quiz shows.” Charlie said: “The Mastermind thing, is it alright or not?” Lucy replied: “Yes, yes.”As Lucy went on to talk more about her quiz blunders, things took a turn as she questioned Charlie on his general knowledge.‌During the awkward moment, Charlie admitted: “Now you’re making me feel tense now because you’re doing the thing people do to you. You’re looking at me, asking me questions and I’m thinking 'look at someone else.'"Viewers watching at home were left “cringing” as they insisted the chat was “the most awkward interview they’ve ever seen”.‌One fan wrote: “I find car crash interviews like this so awkward to watch. ##bbcbreakfast.” Another said: “This is a tad awkward.
