The police guard around the Petrohan lodge and the area below Okolchitsa peak is expected to be lifted, the prosecutor’s office announced.
The security measures had been introduced to preserve the scene of the incident and support the work of investigators during the ongoing pre-trial proceedings into the deaths of six people. Authorities have now determined that the need for continued police protection has ended.
"The police protection was provided in order to preserve the scene of the incident and ensure the ongoing investigation. In view of the stage of the investigation, the need to continue the security has been eliminated," the prosecution said.
The heirs of the property owners have been informed that the area around the lodge will soon be released. The investigation itself will continue under the leadership and supervision of the Sofia District Prosecutor’s Office.
The decision comes around five and a half months after the bodies of six people were discovered in the area. Three victims were found near the Petrohan lodge in the early hours of February 2, while the other three were discovered under Okolchitsa peak on February 8.
