Ice creams enjoy a fanbase of their own. Although typically considered to be a summer delight, these frozen desserts can also be relished throughout the season when cravings hit hard. While several popular brands sell a vast range of ice cream flavours, it is always the hand-crafted, artisanal creations that leave a lasting impression with their unique recipes, fresh ingredients, and nostalgic charm. One ice cream shop in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, that has mastered the art of handcrafted ice creams is Shankar's Ice Cream Library. Customer insights shaped a dessert legacyAccording to a report by The Better India, Shankar's Ice Cream Library was once a humble, and traditional street-side ice cream cart. Started by Gopilal Samnani in 1960, he used to roam the streets of Ahmedabad selling fresh ice cream to sweet tooths. But Gopilal wasn’t merely selling the desserts; he was actively observing what customers actually preferred and what flavours they were more inclined towards. Gopilal Samnani’s understanding of customers eventually became the foundation of the brand becoming a popular hotspot in the city. As years passed, the cart became a shop and in 1989, the second generation of Gopilal Samnani, Arun, took over the reins of the shop, introducing structure, technology and experimentation, which led to the brand producing over 1300 flavourful varieties. A library inspired by endless flavoursFinally, in 2017, the shop was named Shankar's Ice Cream Library, inspired by libraries. Much like in libraries where readers can enjoy a wide range of books across genres, the ice cream parlour also specialises in a diverse catalogue of flavours where every scoop is marked by premium, rich-fat ice-creams with fruity notes. Some of their famous flavours include black jamun, mango, kaju drakash and chocolate, reported Gelato University. That’s not all. Shankar's Ice Cream Library also offers keto, vegan and high-protein ice creams for health-conscious customers and those with specific dietary preferences. Now, the brand d serves through bulk orders as well for get-togethers, parties and weddings. It even bagged the prestigious Times Group’s TIMES FOOD AWARD 2017 for ‘Best Ice-Cream’. What once was a small cart, has now grown into one of Ahmedabad's most celebrated dessert destinations, proving that constant experimentation, quality ingredients and a deep understanding of customer preferences can turn a simple idea into a lasting legacy.
