MANILA, Philippines — Consumers with unpaid electricity bills will continue to have a reprieve from disconnections for three more months as regulators extended the suspension of service cutoffs, citing uncertainties in the energy industry caused by the war in the Middle East

In an advisory, the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) ordered all distribution utilities across the country to suspend electricity service disconnections for customers who fail to settle their payments for the August to October billing periods.

The commission said the order was still in line with President Marcos’ declaration of a state of national energy emergency in March amid the tensions in the oil-producing region involving the United States, Israel and Iran, which had sent fuel prices soaring since the attacks began on Feb. 28.
