The Oyo State Government, on Thursday, announced that the two Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance aircraft procured to strengthen the state’s security architecture will arrive before the end of July, blaming delays in their assembly by the Chinese manufacturers.
The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, announced this in a statement issued after the State Executive Council meeting held at the Executive Council Chamber, Governor’s Office, Ibadan, the state capital.
Oyelade said the government had expected to take delivery of the aircraft much earlier, but the assembly of its components by the manufacturers took longer than anticipated.
The PUNCH reports that shortly after the Oriire abduction of schoolchildren and teachers, the state government announced that the aircraft had arrived at the Nigerian Air Force hangar in Ikeja, Lagos, where assembly commenced.
This followed the backlash received by the government over the May 15, 2026, abduction of over 40 schoolchildren and their teachers at three different schools, namely Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; L.A Primary School and Community Grammar School, Ahoro-Esienle.
