Since retiring in 2022, Federer has been spending far more time with his family and helping guide his children through their teenage years. Mirka, Myla and Charlene are all healthy and doing very well.”The tennis star had kept the fact that they were expecting twins private before the birth. Speaking to The New York Times, Federer later admitted it was difficult not to reveal the surprise.After becoming a father, he told PEOPLE that he wanted to be involved in every part of his daughters’ early years.“It’s been a lot of fun being a father and spending time with them,” Federer said. “I’m hands-on as much as I can because every day is something new and something different. I don’t want to miss anything.”He added, “It’s an amazing feeling to be called a dad. Instead of spending months on tour, he is enjoying everyday family moments with his daughters.In a 2024 interview with PEOPLE, Federer explained why being present during this stage of their lives matters so much to him.“I feel like it’s a very vital time to be around them and to help them, guide them, and obviously, let them also fly on their own,” he said.The family also spends time together outside sports. One of the most memorable moments came after Federer won his eighth Wimbledon singles title in 2017.Speaking on Today, Federer recalled looking into the crowd and seeing his family.“I was just so deeply touched by my performance in the tournament from the beginning to the end,” he said. “I looked up in the stands and saw my kids … then it started to sink in that I was a Wimbledon champion for real.”Federer added, “I saw the boys for the first time, and [seeing] them coming out to centre court and knowing how much center court means to me, and seeing them like not knowing what’s going on. And then the girls were there too, and my wife was emotional. It just really hit me.”Lenny Federer prefers creative interests while Leo Federer follows sportAlthough all four children play different sports, Federer has never tried to push tennis on them.Speaking to PEOPLE in 2024, he said, “They do play tennis, and we ski, and we’re all learning to golf. We recently tried scuba diving. But the girls were never passionate about tennis, and I was relieved about it.”He then shared a glimpse into the personalities of his sons.“The boys love their soccer. Leo is starting to show interest in getting serious about tennis. Lenny is much more creative, he’s very into drawing, reading.”For now, Federer appears happy letting his children discover their own interests. Whether that leads to tennis courts, football fields or creative pursuits, the former world No. 1 has made it clear that family comes first.
