The Odyssey viewers have pointed out what a difference it makes watching Christopher Nolan’s latest film in an IMAX theater. The epic retelling of the Ancient Greek myth is the first feature-length film in history to be shot entirely on 70mm IMAX film cameras.Nolan recently told The Independent that he had aspired to shoot a film entirely in IMAX since he was a teenager.“It’s been a very long journey, starting with The Dark Knight,” said Nolan. “That was the first film where we were able to go to IMAX and say, ‘Lend us your cameras. Let’s try this on things like the introduction of the Joker, the truck flip.’ But we couldn’t do the dialogue scenes because the cameras are very, very loud.”He added: “So knowing we were doing The Odyssey, I went to IMAX and said, ‘Look, if ever we’re gonna do a whole film on IMAX, this is the movie to do it with’.”Matt Damon in Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ (Universal Pictures)But fans have pointed out that the viewing experience is very different when seeing the film on the largest screen possible. One viral tweet compares an image of the film on an IMAX screen to a mock-up of the same scene on a traditional cinema screen:Another user joked: “How am I supposed to watch not knowing that Agamemnon helmet-mogs Odysseus only in IMAX?”Watch Apple TV+ free for 7 dayNew subscribers only. £9.99/mo. after free trial.
