New York City police have taken a man into custody after he shouted a racial slur at “TODAY” co-anchor Craig Melvin near Studio 1A, the morning show’s broadcast headquarters at Rockefeller Plaza, multiple people familiar with the matter said.A spokesperson for the New York Police Department confirmed that one person was in custody but did not confirm the individual’s identity. A preliminary search did not turn up any weapons on the person, according to a separate official.No injuries were reported, and the investigation remains ongoing.Melvin, 47, joined the “TODAY” show in 2018.
