Team Falcons, the Saudi Arabia-based esports powerhouse currently sitting at the No. 1 spot in HLTV’s world rankings, has declined its invitation to PGL Masters Bucharest 2026. They are the only top-ranked team to do so.

The tournament, scheduled for April 4-11 in Romania, carries a $1.25 million prize pool and features 16 teams, with 12 receiving direct invites. Falcons won this exact event last year, dismantling G2 in a clean 3-0 grand final sweep.

The strategic calculus behind sitting out

Falcons has been on a tear. They claimed the HLTV world No. 1 ranking for the first time this year and have won back-to-back Esports World Cup club championships.

The other 11 directly invited teams all accepted. That makes Falcons’ absence conspicuous.
