The Karnataka State Retail Lottery Sellers Association has urged the Karnataka Government to immediately stop the illegal sale of Kerala lottery tickets in the State and reintroduce a legally regulated Karnataka State Lottery Scheme.Addressing a press conference, the Association’s Founder State President C. Ramakrishna alleged that illegal lottery ticket sales are happening across Karnataka, resulting in the loss of thousands of crores of rupees in potential tax revenue. He said, “If the Karnataka government revives a legally regulated state lottery, it could generate an estimated ₹5,000–6,000 crore in annual revenue for the state exchequer. The government must also revive and establish a dedicated Lottery Department, similar to the one that existed earlier, to regulate and administer lottery operations.”“Although the Karnataka government has issued three notifications under the Lottery (Regulation) Act since 2007, illegal lottery sales have continued,” he said.Karnataka government had completely banned lottery sales in 2007, citing the menace of single-digit lotteries.
