The Mangaluru City police’s Central Crime Branch sleuths arrested two alleged drug peddlers and seized 5 kg of MDMA and other articles during an operation in Bagalkote on Wednesday.

Sleuths from the Mangaluru City police’s Central Crime Branch (CCB) have arrested two alleged drug peddlers and seized 5.196 kg of MDMA, worth ₹5.2 crore. The seizure is the highest drug haul by the city police so far.Commissioner of Police (CP) Sudheer Kumar Reddy gave the names of the arrested persons as Mohammed Alfaz, 28, from Bangadi in Dakshina Kannada, and Mohammed Mustafa, 28, from Ujire village in Dakshina Kannada.Talking to reporters here on Wednesday, Mr. Reddy said a drug peddler, Annappa Swamy, alias Manu, was arrested from a house in Kulaigudde on June 25 and 15.17 grams of MDMA, worth ₹1.5 lakh was seized from him. Following inquiries into Swamy’s operations, the police found that the two arrested persons had supplied the MDMA.The CCB traced the movement of the two accused persons. When the accused were driving from Delhi to Bengaluru with the drugs, the CCB team traced them to a lodge in Bagalkote and arrested them on Wednesday. Apart from 5 kg of MDMA, the police seized three mobile phones and three bags from the accused, the CP said.“The 5 kg of MDMA seized from the accused drug peddlers is the highest drug seizure by the city police. The police successfully dismantled a major drug supply network,” Mr. Reddy said. The accused had made Bengaluru their base and were supplying drugs to Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, and to Kerala. The police were searching for the alleged associates of the accused, Mr. Reddy added.Alfaz is an accused in a case of drug peddling registered at Konaje police station and in another at Urwa police station in 2024 and 2026, respectively.
