But as charities face a major rehoming crisis, those statistics have shockingly surged by 15%, if not more, per year with organisations like the RSCPA caring for thousands of abandoned dogs.‌Adopting a dog requires meeting specific standards and involves standard adoption fees rather than purchasing prices. Welcoming a pet into the family could take a lot of commitment but can be extremely rewarding if you're taking a dog off the streets. Now a story on the two German Shepard brothers who were trapped in a pitch-black dungeon has left rescue workers devastated as they're still searching for that forever home.‌Jimmy and Hector have spent the last three years in kennels, desperately waiting for someone to give them a chance. Yet despite their adoption appeal being seen by more than 22,000 people, they have been passed over time and time again.‌Now aged six, the brothers are still searching for the forever home they have never known. The pair were saved by Miracle's Mission after being found locked inside a tiny room with "four walls, no view, air and life" - never once allowed outside, spending their earliest years hidden away in near darkness before rescuers finally intervened.Since being saved, Jimmy and Hector have blossomed into affectionate, playful dogs - yet despite their remarkable progress, they remain without a loving family to call their own.Rescue worker Emma said: "Their backstory is particularly harrowing because they were kept in a dungeon for the first two years of their lives. We rescued them from there and they have blossomed so much, but they've had two adoptions fall through and they really need to start their new lives now."‌Described as "loving, friendly boys", the duo weigh a combined 80kg, yet still possess the boundless energy and spirit of puppies, despite everything they have been through.Sadly, their size and the need to be rehomed together has made finding them the perfect family an incredibly tough task. Their adoption appeal reads: "It's time their lives changed. It's time they saw the world. They cannot carry on living this way.‌"Despite their isolation, they are incredibly loving dogs who adore people. They have been tested with children, other dogs and cats and have done brilliantly."Hector and Jimmy are very attached because, for so long, they only had each other. It would be wonderful if they could be adopted together by one loving family so we don't have to separate them and break their hearts."Both dogs have been neutered, vaccinated with rabies tested and are now ready to make the journey from Egypt to the UK the moment a suitable home is found.‌Emma added: "They're excellent with people and other dogs and have previously been tested with cats and children too."Their boarding funds are running low, so we're desperately appealing for a forever home. If that's not possible, any donation towards their kennel costs would be hugely appreciated."Hector recently suffered heat stroke, so their medical bills have been exceptionally high.
