The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Health, Nomagugu Simelane, has addressed concerns over Ebola in the province, reiterating that there were currently no confirmed cases of the virus in the province and the country.
Simelane urged residents to dismiss the flood of misinformation circulating on social media sites, and encouraged them to seek updates only from legitimate health authorities.
Her statement came amidst a wave of misleading voice notes and posts that falsely claimed that Ebola was prevalent in KZN.
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) has confirmed that no laboratory-confirmed Ebola cases existed in the country, while the National Department of Health has categorically dismissed these rumours as unfounded.
