In a push towards sustainable transport, modern healthcare, and advanced connectivity, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Haryana, Chandigarh, and Punjab on Friday (July 17, 2026) on a day-long tour in which he will unveil initiatives valued at over ₹25,000 crore. The highlight of the multi-State visit will be the flagging-off of India’s first-ever hydrogen-powered fuel cell train at Jind in Haryana.Designed and integrated indigenously, this 10-coach train is among the world’s longest and most powerful hydrogen-fuelled passenger trainsets, powered by a 3,200 horsepower (HP) propulsion system.Unlike traditional trains, it generates its own electricity onboard through a chemical reaction between hydrogen and atmospheric oxygen, leaving behind water vapour.New expresswaysBesides, the Prime Minister will proceed to the Eklavya Stadium in Jind to lay foundation stones and dedicate to the nation national highway projects worth ₹12,470 crore, including Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway, a 157.92 kilometre, four-lane access-controlled greenfield stretch built at a cost of ₹9,680 crore, slashing the Delhi to Katra travel time from 14 hours to six hours and Jind-Gohana Greenfield Highway (NH-352A) which will reduce transit times from two hours to just 40 minutes.Mr. Modi will also lay foundation stone for a state-of-the-art Sikh museum in Kurukshetra celebrating the legacy of the Sikh Gurus, alongside the new medical colleges in Bhiwani and Narnaul that will be dedicated to the nation.In the afternoon, the Prime Minister will arrive in Chandigarh to inaugurate and commission healthcare and road infrastructure projects worth ₹4,700 crore.Tertiary health centresThe infrastructure includes PGIMER Chandigarh’s Advanced Mother and Child Centre, a 300-bed tertiary care facility tailored for high-risk pregnancies and intensive newborn treatment along with an advanced neurosciences centre, which will be an integrated hub offering neurology, neurosurgery, and neuro-critical care diagnostics under a single roof. Prime Minister Modi will also lay the foundation stone of PM-ABHIM Critical Care Block, a 150-bed emergency response and disaster backup facility.Mr. Modi will inaugurate the six-lane greenfield highway from IT City to Kurali (Mohali) to streamline inter-State transit between Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir.Concluding his tour in Jalandhar, the Prime Minister will dedicate rail and road infrastructure projects totalling over ₹5,470 crore. The Prime Minister will inaugurate 75 completely redeveloped, modern railway stations across 20 States, including Jalandhar Cantonment, executed at a cost of ₹1,570 crore and Daulatpur Chowk-Kartoli new rail line (part of the Nangal Dam-Talwara-Mukerian project), while also flagging off the new Kartoli-Ambala and Amritsar-Varanasi train services.Mr. Modi will also launch the 30.9-km-long package-6 of the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway and lay the foundation for the Southern Ludhiana Bypass.
