Gomes made 130 appearances for Wolves Judit Cartiel/Getty ImagesJuly 16, 2026 Updated July 18, 2026Aston Villa are set to finalise a move for Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Joao Gomes and are also in talks to sign Joao Palhinha on loan from Bayern Munich.The deal for Gomes is to be finalised for a fee of around £35million, while Palhinha spent last season at Tottenham Hotspur and is available to leave Bayern this summer.On Friday, Gomes met his new Villa team-mates after undergoing his medical at the club.The move accelerated in recent days following Youri Tielemans’ departure to Manchester United.The Athletic reported, following Wolves’ relegation from the Premier League, that Gomes and fellow Brazil international Andre were regarded as certain to depart the club in the summer, potentially for significant fees.Gomes has a contract with Wolves that runs until 2030, with the option of a further year, having last signed fresh terms in April 2025.He moved to Molineux from his boyhood club Flamengo in January 2023 and made 130 appearances for the club. The Brazil international featured 41 times across all competitions for Wolves last season.The Athletic reported on Wednesday that midfielder Johan Manzambi is expected to undergo a medical on Thursday ahead of his proposed move to Villa from Freiburg for a club record fee.Villa lost midfielder Amadou Onana to a knee ligament injury at the World Cup, while Tielemans joined Manchester United in a £35m deal.
