Parliament's ad hoc committee chairman Soviet Lekganyane has cleared several high-profile figures, saying its work is far from complete.
The chairperson of Parliament’s ad hoc committee probing allegations of corruption and political interference in the police system, Soviet Lekganyane, has rejected reports suggesting that the committee has cleared certain individuals of any wrongdoing.
Lekganyane said such reports are premature, adding that the committee has only begun deliberating on its draft preliminary report, which has not yet been finalised.
The ad hoc committee was established to investigate allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi during an explosive media briefing in July last year.
Lekganyane’s statement follows the committee's meeting on Tuesday, during which members discussed the second draft preliminary report.
