A retired Deputy Inspector General of Police has been accused of ordering the detention of a police lawyer attached to the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, over his alleged failure to appear in court in a case involving the retired officer's staff.
According to information made available to SaharaReporters, the lawyer, identified as Inspector Michael Okolie, has been held in custody at the SCID, Panti, since Friday, July 10, on the alleged directive of the retired senior police officer.
Sources familiar with the matter alleged that the retired DIG, identified as Marvel Akpoyibo, had earlier reported an assault case on behalf of his staff, which was subsequently charged before a Magistrate Court in Yaba, Lagos.
Inspector Okolie, a legal officer attached to the SCID, Panti, was said to have handled the prosecution after the matter was assigned to him.
