Representative ImageDave Brown, one of Amazon Web Services' (AWS) longest-serving executives, is leaving the company after nearly 19 years. According to a CNBC report, AWS CEO Matt Garman informed employees in a memo on July 15 that Brown will step down at the end of this month to take up "a new role outside of the company." Brown currently serves as a senior vice president at AWS and is also a member of Amazon CEO Andy Jassy's influential S-team. Garman said that Dave Brown will be replaced by Dave Treadwell, a senior executive from Amazon's e-commerce business. What AWS CEO Matt Garman’s memo saidIn his note to employees, AWS CEO Matt Garman thanked Brown for his contributions to AWS over nearly two decades. “Dave has been a big part of what we have built at AWS, and I want to personally thank him for all of his contributions in helping grow and develop the technology, the business and the team,” Garman wrote.Brown also shared a separate memo with employees, saying he felt it was time to move on.“Like the right time for me to begin a new chapter,” Brown wrote, adding that his organisation is “in outstanding hands” under Treadwell. He also praised his successor. “He's an exceptional leader with deep technical expertise, relentless customer focus, and a genuine passion for building strong teams.”Brown joined AWS during its early years and helped build its core Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) service, one of the company's oldest cloud offerings. Over the years, his responsibilities expanded to include AWS' compute and machine learning services, including Bedrock and SageMaker.As stated before, Dave Brown is also part of Amazon CEO Andy Jassy's S-team, a group of senior executives that meets regularly to make key company decisions. Brown's exit comes as AWS continues to see strong growth from AI-related demand. The cloud business reported 28% revenue growth in the first quarter, while competitors Microsoft and Google have also benefited from increased spending on AI and cloud infrastructure.
