The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall across several parts of the country on Thursday, with heavy to very heavy rain likely over parts of east and northeast India. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are also expected in multiple states, while hot and humid conditions are likely to persist over parts of north and south India.Delhi-NCR to remain hot and humid with light rainDelhi is expected to continue witnessing isolated rainfall on Thursday. Although no heavy rain warning has been issued for the national capital, hot and humid conditions are likely to persist over Delhi, Haryana and Punjab.North India weather forecastRainfall is expected to continue across parts of the western Himalayan region, with Uttarakhand likely to receive heavy rain.Scattered rainfall is also forecast over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh over the coming days, with heavier spells expected in some areas later this week.Odisha, West Bengal under very heavy rain alertThe IMD has predicted very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal.Heavy rainfall is also likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, Jharkhand, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and Uttarakhand.Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are expected over Madhya Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Similar conditions are also likely in parts of Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka and Telangana.East India weather forecastOdisha and Gangetic West Bengal are likely to receive very heavy rainfall at isolated places on Thursday.Heavy rainfall is also expected over Bihar, Jharkhand, sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, while thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds are likely in parts of Bihar and Jharkhand.Northeast India weather forecastWidespread rainfall is forecast across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.Heavy rainfall is expected across much of the region, with rain activity likely to continue over the next few days.Central and west India weather forecastParts of Madhya Pradesh are likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds.Rainfall is expected to continue over Chhattisgarh, while Gujarat, central Maharashtra, Marathwada, Saurashtra, Kutch, Konkan and Goa are likely to receive scattered rain.South India weather forecastRainfall is likely over Kerala, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal and Lakshadweep.Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds are also expected in parts of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Telangana.Rainfall to continue over several regionsAccording to the IMD, heavy rainfall is likely to continue over parts of east, northeast and northwest India during the next three to four days.Rain activity is also expected to persist over parts of central and southern India, while hot and humid weather may continue over parts of Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.The weather department has advised people in areas under heavy rainfall alerts to remain cautious due to the possibility of waterlogging, reduced visibility and localised flooding.
