The parliamentary group of “We Continue the Change” (PP) has launched a petition calling for the gradual replacement of dangerous metal road barriers with concrete safety barriers in order to improve traffic safety.
The initiative was presented by MP Yordan Terziyski, who said urgent action was needed to address weaknesses in the current road safety system.
“An analysis should be made of whether the barriers on the republican road network meet European standards. Where they do not, overtaking by heavy goods vehicles should be prohibited, and as a medium-term measure, the installation of concrete barriers should be considered,” Terziyski said.
According to the party, the condition and type of safety barriers on Bulgarian roads require a comprehensive review, especially on sections where heavy trucks pose a greater risk to vehicles traveling in the opposite direction.
“Democratic Bulgaria” (DB) also called for increased competition in the supply and installation of road safety equipment, as well as a wider use of modern protection systems.
