The Institution of Engineers (India), Visakhapatnam Centre, paid tribute to India’s engineering icons on Wednesday, marking the birth anniversary of Padma Bhushan Dr. K. L. Rao.The event, held at the newly constructed Visvesvaraya Bhavan, featured the unveiling of a statue of Dr. K. L. Rao and the ceremonial reinstallation of a statue of Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya.Chief Guest Palla Srinivasa Rao, Gajuwaka MLA and Telugu Desam Party State president, unveiled the statue of Dr. K. L. Rao.Commending the local centre for preserving the legacy of these legendary figures, he stressed the need to inspire the youth through such initiatives. He pledged support to mobilise approximately ₹1.50 crore through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and other channels to expedite the remaining construction of Visvesvaraya Bhavan.Prof. K. Venkata Subbaiah, former Vice-Chancellor of JNTU-GV, reinstalled the statue of Sir M. Visvesvaraya and highlighted the visionary engineer’s monumental contributions to irrigation and industrial development.The technical session featured insights from Prof. V. Venkateswara Rao, who discussed sustainable micro-level water conservation strategies for Andhra Pradesh, and I. Sathyanarayana Raju, who delved into the irrigation legacy of Dr. K. L. Rao and the technical nuances of the Polavaram-Penna river-linking project.The programme was attended by around 100 delegates, including engineers, academics, and students.
