Morgan Rogers, the Aston Villa forward who cost £8 million just over two years ago, will start on the right flank for England in their FIFA World Cup semi-final against Argentina on July 15, 2026.

England manager Thomas Tuchel made the call to insert Rogers into the starting XI after his impact as a substitute in the quarter-final, replacing Noni Madueke.

From Middlesbrough to the world stage

Born on July 26, 2002, Rogers moved to Aston Villa from Middlesbrough in February 2024 for an initial fee of £8 million, with performance-related clauses that could push the total to £15 million.

The 23-year-old cemented his status at Villa Park by scoring in their 3-0 UEFA Europa League final victory over SC Freiburg on May 20, 2026.
