The boy who killed 83-year-old Pickering resident Eleanor Doney in her front yard as she was raking leaves has been given the maximum youth sentence for first-degree murder.

On Wednesday, Superior Court Justice Lisa Wannamaker ruled that the 15-year-old — who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) — would receive some credit for the more than 13 months he spent in pre-sentence detention, ordering he spend an additional five years in a youth facility receiving intensive programming and counselling. Following that, he will be released back into the community under supervision for another four years.
