Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis
Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis has dropped a bombshell, revealing that the controversial Eye in the Sky project was cancelled because the City could no longer afford the rand to dollar exhange.
This comes after Saftey and Security mayco member JP Smith told the Cape Argus in June that the contract had been cancelled in August last year due to non-compliance by the two companies, which are international.
Smith had said the project cost the Safety and Security portfolio a whopping R16.3 million during a year of its existence in Cape Town, for storage, training, and operations.
The "Eye in the Sky” aerial surveillance project has been cancelled after its R100m contract was terminated over non-compliance.
