Minister for Urban Development Yathindra Siddaramaiah on Wednesday (July 15) directed the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) to complete road improvement works in the city at least a week before the commencement of Dasara this year.Chairing a meeting of Mysuru district-level officers on the zilla panchayat premises here, Mr. Yathindra directed the officials to also ensure that quality is maintained in the execution of the works.It may be mentioned here that the road works have prolonged and continued through Dasara in the past years.During the meeting, he also directed the officials to complete the ongoing development works in the district within the stipulated timeframe and ensure quality in their execution.He said the public should be informed about white-topping works being carried out in different parts of Mysuru city.He also directed them to take up white-topping works only after Dasara festivities. “There will be heavy vehicular traffic during Dasara. Take additional measures to prevent traffic congestion,” he instructed.Referring to the work being carried out by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) near Manipal Hospital Circle, the Minister said the work was causing heavy traffic congestion in the area. He directed officials to suspend the work when Dasara festivities begin, facilitate smooth vehicular movement and resume the work after Dasara.He also directed the NHAI officials to look into the repeated accidents reported on the Mysuru-T. Narasipur road.Water scarcityNoting that the State was facing drought conditions, he said there should be no scarcity of drinking water in the district. Officials should take all necessary precautionary measures to ensure adequate drinking water supply.“No village should face drinking water scarcity. Clean drinking water must be supplied, and officials should work towards this objective. They should manage the drought situation effectively,” he directed.Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikanth Reddy, Zilla Panchayat CEO S. Yukesh Kumar, Mysuru City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar, Superintendent of Police Mallikarjun Baladandi and district-level officers from various departments were present at the meeting.
