Huge leap in number of AI data centres may be needed
AI experts convened by the European Commission say the bloc should aim to triple its share of the world’s AI-specialised data centres, according to a report the Commission published on Wednesday.
The external experts painted a gloomy picture of the EU’s prospects at a closed-door meeting in April, as Euractiv reported previously. Pointing out that Europe has fallen behind the US and China, they warned that drastic action is needed to avoid the bloc missing out on the expected benefits of a key tech.
The Commission on Wednesday condensed their input into an official report, saying its AI Office – an oversight body for the bloc’s AI Act – will be in charge of prioritising and implementing the experts’ recommendations.
