Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube says provinces have been directed to complete their investigation and verification of all flagged records by July 31.
Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube said the mismatch of more than 22,000 employee records and government payroll data found by the Integrated School Data Collection Platform (ISDCP) exercise has not established any “ghost employees”.
Gwarube said the figures, from the ISDCP that was conducted by the Education Labour Relations Council (ELRC), flagged issues in the preliminary verification results.
“They do not, without further verification, establish that any person is a ‘ghost employee’, that public funds were improperly paid, or that any official has committed misconduct,” she said.
Gwarube was responding to parliamentary questions from ActionSA MP Lerato Ngobeni, who wanted to know whether the Basic Education Department had investigated the reported mismatch between the employee records and government payroll data.
