This historic move allows for new freedom of movement under an EU-UK treaty, which Foreign Office Minister Stephen Doughty said secures Gibraltar’s long-term economic future. The agreement, praised by EU trade representative Maroš Šefčovič, effectively integrates the British Overseas Territory into the EU’s Schengen free travel area. The deal prevents a hard land border that would have economically impacted Gibraltar, which relies on approximately 15,000 Spanish workers daily.
