Refugees claim they were forced from homes as humanitarian crisis deepens in Durban.
For nearly two months, the pavement on Durban's Che Guevara Road has been home to hundreds of refugees who fled alleged xenophobic violence. Talking to IOL, they described unbearable living conditions and violence.
Among those sleeping in the makeshift camp is Raymond Ramsay, a 36-year-old man from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), who said he and hundreds of others have endured weeks without proper shelter.
"I am one of the refugees here. We have been sleeping here for nearly two months," Ramsay said.
He said the group's only request was for the government to provide a safe place to stay.
