70 public relations officers in the Nigeria Customs Service have been inducted into the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, marking the agency’s first mass professional induction in 13 years as it moves to strengthen strategic communication and combat misinformation surrounding its operations.

The induction ceremony, held at the Service Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja, is part of the Customs Service’s ongoing reforms aimed at building a corps of certified communication professionals capable of effectively projecting the agency’s policies, operations and achievements.

According to a statement issued by the Nigeria Customs Service on Tuesday, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, described the induction as a strategic investment in strengthening the Service’s communication architecture, stressing that effective public communication had become essential to sustaining ongoing reforms and boosting public confidence.

According to him, the transformation recorded by the Service, including its recognition as the best-performing government agency in the Federal Government’s Ease of Doing Business initiative, was driven by deliberate institutional reforms that must be professionally communicated to Nigerians and stakeholders.
