Following talks with French President Emmanuel Macron, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Ukraine will be the first to receive the new, upgraded French-Italian SAMP/T NG anti-ballistic missile systems.
The head of state wrote about this on Telegram, according to Ukrinform.
“The result of our talks with Emmanuel and the work of our teams is an important agreement between Ukraine and France—a truly leadership move by France in defense cooperation with Ukraine in the interests of all of Europe,” Zelensky wrote.
He outlined the key agreements. In particular, Ukraine will receive licenses to manufacture SCALP missiles, AASM bombs, and, jointly with Italy, Aster 30 missiles as well. In addition, France will cooperate with Ukraine and other partners within the framework of the FREYJA anti-ballistic missile program.
“Ukraine will be the first to receive the new, upgraded French-Italian SAMP/T NG systems. These are effective anti-ballistic systems. France will also provide two SAMP/T systems to strengthen our defenses as early as this year. At the same time, France and Italy will expedite deliveries of Aster 30 missiles by October of this year,” the President stated.
