A recent study investigated the association between the use of hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) in pregnant women with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and the risks of preeclampsia/eclampsia and preterm delivery. The main objective was to determine whether HCQ has a protective effect against preeclampsia.
The report, which appears in Arthritis Care & Research, studied 847 pregnancies among 597 publicly insured women with SLE in a Canadian data registry.
Co-author, Julia Simard, ScD, is an associate professor with the department of epidemiology and population health with Stanford University School of Medicine in California.
