With global tech giants like Amazon, Facebook, Google and Microsoft setting up AI data centres in India, homegrown data center infrastructure builder Electromech InfraProjects is aiming for a jump in its turnover by around ₹2,000 crore in the next four to five years from just around ₹450 crore right now.Speaking to businessline, Varun Maniar, Managing Director of the company said that the uptick in demand for data centers started since 2019 onwards when Microsofts and the Amazons and Metas of the world started making data centres in India.“So that’s when we saw sort of an uptick of a lot of demand for our services...in 2019, like 5 per cent of our revenue came from data centres, today it will be 75 per cent and that is purely a function of the scale at which data centres have grown in the country,” Maniar told businessline.For instance, in 2019, India had a capacity of 600MW of data center capacity, but today it has grown up to 1.5GW, he said.He said with so much data generation and demand for data processing with global capability centers (GCCs) and several operating facilities of all global banks, companies in India, the need for data to be localised was very high. Therefore, companies like Electromech InfraProjects saw an uptick in demand for their services.US tech companies Amazon, Microsoft and Google are committing around $57 billion in total to expand their footprint in India as the country is positioning itself as a key global data centre and AI hub.Amazon in June announced to invest an additional $13 billion to expand AI and cloud infrastructure in India, taking its total investment in the country to $48 billion between 2026 and 2030.Similarly, Microsoft in December 2025 announced a $17.5 billion investment in India through 2029, additional to $3 billion it committed in January 2025.Google in October 2025 also committed to invest $15 billion over the next five years to establish a large-scale AI hub in Visakhapatnam.Meta and Reliance Industries have also entered into a strategic partnership to build an AI-enabled data centre in India, located in Jamnagar (Gujarat) with a capacity of 168 MW, to run servers and AI workloads of its platforms including Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.Published on July 14, 2026
