CEBU CITY, Philippines — A diploma is valuable, but what matters more is how it is used to improve the lives of others.
That was the message veteran broadcast journalist Kara David-Cancio delivered during the University of the Philippines (UP) Cebu’s 87th Commencement Exercises on July 14, 2026, which featured the university’s largest graduating class on record.
Speaking to reporters before the ceremony, David-Cancio said graduates should look beyond academic achievement and focus on serving others.
“Importante ang diploma, pero mas importante kung ano ang gagawin mo sa iyong diploma at paano mo ito gagamitin para makatulong sa iba,” she said.
