Guwahati: ONGC stated that a localized surface low intensity gas bubbling phenomenon was observed at Napam Baruwati in Geleki Field, Assam Asset. The bubbling was confined to a single location.ONGC has deployed a multidisciplinary team of experts and secured the site through barricading with continuous surveillance and methane monitoring. Very low quantities of Methane was detected using the hand-held gas detectors.ONGC has verified all available pipeline drawings and conducted a physical examination of the area using underground pipeline-locating equipment. These investigations have ruled out the presence of any buried pipeline beneath or in the vicinity of the location.Also read | IOC reassures customers on fuel quality after social media postsThe point (where gas was bubbling) was excavated and the pit was sealed off on 13 July using a chemical barite treatment followed by a cement-concrete mixture. Bubbling has subsided since the treatment.
