Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has urged Union Civil Aviation Minister Ramamohan Naidu to ensure the development of the airports at Mamnoor in Warangal and Adilabad to international standards, requesting them to be readied by June 2, 2028.He also explained the strategic advantages of the two airports. Warangal, in particular, was well connected by rail and road, with industries such as the mega textile park and the railway coach factory. The State government was committed to further developing the area in the coming days, as Warangal was central point for north Telangana districts as well as Khammam, he said.The Chief Minister met the Union Minister in New Delhi on Tuesday. The meeting formed part of the government’s efforts to create employment opportunities through the development of airports, which played key role in the country’s development.He said the Centre should consider setting up of maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility, infrastructure for air cargo and other facilities in the upcoming airport at Warangal for which land acquisition was completed. The Centre should call for tenders to commence the works at the earliest so that the airport will be ready by June 2, 2028.The Chief Minister discussed the designs of the airport at Warangal and suggested that the design should reflect the Kakatiya tradition of the area. Mr. Revanth Reddy also discussed the Adilabad airport development and requested Mr. Ramamohan Naidu to develop a civilian airport along with the Defence airport planned there. Steps should also be taken to set up flying training facilities at both the airports, he said.The Chief Minister requested Mr. Ramamohan Naidu to examine the possibility of operating seaplane services between Prakasam Barrage in Vijayawada and Hussainsagar in the city. The Union Minister asked the Chief Minister to submit proposals in this regard.Mr. Ramamohan Naidu said several States were competing to set up airports, which formed a crucial component of accelerated development. In the process, Telangana had set a record of sorts by completing land acquisition at the earliest and thanked the Chief Minister for the State’s efforts. He advised other States to emulate Telangana in completing land acquisition and other infrastructural requirements at the earliest so that works could be taken up.Later Mr. Reddy asserted that there is no link between development and politics and that politics should be confined to election time. He said the State government is holding discussions with the Union government from time-to-time on the problems faced by the State and to accelerate the developmental projects. The government was doing its best to resolve issues with the help of the Central Government and was exchanging views on various matters in the event of gaps in information flow, he said.It was not appropriate to politicise and criticise the government’s efforts to speed up development of Telangana, he said.
