The father of slain rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes says he released private WhatsApp conversations involving his late son because he could no longer stay silent amid allegations linking him to the death of his fiancée, Anele “Nelli” Tembe.
His statement, issued on Monday, came after the WhatsApp messages were circulated publicly. The conversations, which Tony Forbes says were exchanged between Kiernan, Tembe and the Tembe family’s lawyer during and after the Hilton Hotel incident in Durban in December 2020, have drawn widespread public attention.
In his statement, Forbes said the decision to release the messages was deeply personal.
“I reluctantly made the decision to release various WhatsApp texts exchanged between Kiernan Forbes, Anele Thembe and the Thembe family lawyer. I did it as his father. Not Lynn Forbes, nor Steffan Forbes.”
“I could not save him but I can fight for his name and memory.”
