African data center operator Raxio is planning to enter Tanzania.The company is planning to set up a facility called TZ1 in Dar es Salaam, a port city on the country’s coast.The facility's exact location was not provided, but Raxio has said that it is on the outskirts of the city, approximately 30 minutes away from the Central Business District.It will offer 6MW of capacity across 4,000 sqm (43,055 sq ft) of white space.At the time of writing, a link on Raxio’s website about the facility’s “tech specs” leads instead to a file about Raxio’s UG1 data center in Uganda.Raxio is currently backed by $380 million in committed capital. The company announced yesterday that infrastructure investors Meridiam and Roha had provided an additional $30 million in equity, adding to an existing $350m in capital commitments from the World Bank Group’s International Finance Corporation and debt funding from France’s development finance arm Proparco and the Emerging Africa and Asia Infrastructure Fund.The company also said that it had signed contracts for “six times more power” during the first half of this year when compared with the same period last year.Radio also has data centers in Angola, the Ivory Coast, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Mozambique, and Tanzania.
