Police are investigating threats made against the daughters of Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro.According to police sources, the information was that on Saturday, officials received a call on the E999 service in which the caller threatened Guevarro’s family if they could not reach him.The caller warned that if they could not get to the commissioner, they would target his two daughters instead.The call was flagged, and officials from the Cyber Crime Unit were contacted to help trace its origin and the caller.On Monday, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Administration) Junior Benjamin told the Express that the Police Service was standing behind its leader, and warned that the organisation would not be intimidated.“We certainly do not take kindly to threats, especially threats made to our Commissioner of Police, his family, any officer or any citizen, and we will do what is absolutely necessary to deal with the situation decisively, and we will deal with it in accordance with the law...the full brunt of the law. The TTPS stands firmly behind its Commissioner, and officers would not be intimidated, by such actions, from performing their duties,” Benjamin said.Speaking with the media at his constituency office in Tunapuna yesterday, Minister of Homeland Security Roger Alexander said he was aware of the threats against Guevarro’s daughters.While he did not go into details of the incident, he said that he had full confidence in the Police Service to treat with the issue.He also suggested that such reports, while unfortunate, may be a sign that the Police Service was doing its job.“It is clear that something positive is happening in this country, and criminal elements are doing what they can to disrupt it,” Alexander said.He also confirmed that the police were aware of and were investigating alleged threats made against Public Utilities Minister Barry Padarath.The Sunday Express reported that $250,000 was allegedly offered to an individual by a former government minister to kill Padarath.Padarath said in December 2025 he was contacted by the head of Special Branch and after a meeting was arranged, he was informed of the threat.He said police advised him that there was need to increase security and an evaluation would be done by Special Branch.The minister said he was left stunned by the report. However, he said he would not be deterred from performing his duties.Yesterday Alexander said the matter received immediate attention after it was brought to his attention.“The ministers and I speak every day, and if something comes to my attention that needs urgent attention, it will be dealt with. It happens to the minister, it can happen to the public.“So, yes, a lot of communication took place. And it is necessary that it should be done now because of what we have unearthed. It is very serious,” Alexander said.
