Shania Care-Slede, of Market Street, Hyde, will appear at Manchester Magistrates' Court today charged with aggravated arson, being reckless as to whether life was endangered, and dangerous driving12:51, 14 Jul 2026A woman is set to appear in court charged with arson as two huge wildfires rage on the outskirts of Manchester.Fire crews have been battling the flames at Dovestone Reservoir in Oldham and on Tintwistle Moor near Glossop today with major incidents declared.Huge plumes of smoke can be seen rising into the air near the scene sparking concerns about local air quality.A 20-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of arson over the Dovestone wildfire, the Manchester Evening News reports.Shania Care-Slede, of Market Street, Hyde, has been charged with aggravated arson, being reckless as to whether life was endangered, and dangerous driving. She has been remanded into custody and will appear at Manchester Magistrates' Court today (July 14).A GMP spokesperson said: "These charges relate to an ongoing fire at Dovestones Reservoir, which remains under investigation. Officers are continuing to pursue a number of lines of enquiry and are seeking to identify any other individuals who may have been involved.""We are grateful to the local and wider community for sharing a significant amount of video footage. Detectives are meticulously reviewing all material submitted. As criminal proceedings are now active, we would encourage people to avoid speculation online."Firefighters from the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service were first called to Dovestone in Oldham on Saturday night. A major incident was declared on Monday afternoon as firefighters worked to contain the blaze and prevent further spread across the moorland at the beauty spot amid hot weather conditions.The blaze at Dovestone, as well as from the major fire at Tintwistle, has left many parts of Greater Manchester blanketed in plumes of smoke. Crews are continuing to work at the scene today.In an update this afternoon Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said around 70 firefighters, 11 fire engines and four wildfire units had been dispatched to tackle the flames.Detective Inspector Andrew Day said: "While we have secured charges against one individual, our investigation remains ongoing. Detectives are carefully reviewing all available evidence to identify anyone else who may have been involved in criminality linked to this incident."We're committed to pursuing all those responsible. Anyone identified as having committed a criminal offence can expect to be robustly dealt with. I would also like to thank the public for the support they have shown so far and encourage anyone with information or footage that may assist our enquiries to come forward."The wildfire at Tintwistle, above Woodhead Road in Glossop, first broke out nearly three weeks ago amid the heatwave on June 24. Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service declared a major incident as the blaze raged on. Shania Care-Slede is not suspected of any connection to this second fire.Article continues belowIt has burned an area the size of 350 football pitches already, and firefighting operations will go on ‘for some time’, officials said. On Monday evening, the service said 'full operations' would resume today.
