As I push the glass door open, a collection of vintage posters on the wall makes me instantly happy. Frames of iconic films like Charulata, Zindagi, and Sujata sharing space with The Beatles and Pink Floyd, exude a retro vibe to the already elegant interiors. Every corner has a charm, be it the plush red couch, the open cabinets on the sides stacked with books and knick-knacks, bottle green décor on the walls or the sturdy wooden table. The glass windows face the outdoor garden cafe set amidst greenery.

“The furniture here is from my passion project,” says Pratheep Mohan, one of the founders of Britain to Bombay 1800 cafe. “Although I studied engineering, my calling was in designing and creating furniture. My other partners are Praveen, Siddharth, and Kannan,” he adds. The original idea was far smaller. Siddharth and Praveen had planned a one-room cloud kitchen. Pratheep entered the picture to install grills at the property. What followed, he laughs, was a ‘nuclear collision’ of ideas. The cloud kitchen evolved into a full-fledged cafe raising a toast to global flavours yet staying true to the local palate. It serves burgers, pizzas, steaks, pastas, rice bowls, sandwiches, and a curated mocktails menu. Brunch on weekends and an all-new lunch menu with 15 items including rice bowls and pizzas, and desserts are the new additions.
