Lithuania’s parliament on Tuesday approved the program of Prime Minister-designate Mindaugas Sinkevičius’ government despite opposition concerns over procedural irregularities.

The program was approved by a vote of 72-29, with four lawmakers abstaining.

“We want to build a state where economic growth means greater prosperity for every person. We believe that Lithuania’s long-term competitiveness must begin with investments in people, knowledge and innovation,” Sinkevičius told lawmakers during a debate on the new government’s program.

He said his government would remain open to proposals and ready to work with lawmakers and groups across society regardless of political affiliation.

“Members of parliament, you can be sure that our government will seek to create a socially fair and economically strong Lithuania,” Sinkevičius said.
