As temperatures soar once again and Brits look for ways to keep cool, Senior Social News reporter Zahna Eklund has tried a viral fruit trick that has been hailed a 'game-changer'09:47, 14 Jul 2026'I tried viral fruit hack to keep you cool this summer - it really works'One common fruit could be the secret to beating the heatwave and keeping you cool. As temperatures soar in the UK once again this week, with many parts of the country reaching highs of 30°C and beyond, many of us are looking for ways to cool down.‌Shops are seeing fans and portable air conditioning units go out of stock regularly, and heatwave hacks claiming to keep you cool have been going viral across social media. These hacks include everything from putting hot water bottles in the freezer to making your own air conditioning unit with a bowl of ice and your desk fan, but there's one little-known trick that I recently stumbled upon and wanted to try.‌During my late-night scrolls on TikTok, I saw a video which claimed you can put grapes in your freezer to help cool you down on a hot day. And no, you don't use the fruit like a bag of frozen peas on a swollen knee; you simply eat them while they're still frozen in order to cool down your body from the inside out.‌As someone who is on a diet and is constantly tempted to eat nothing but ice cream in this weather, frozen grapes sounded like a fantastic idea, even just as a quick snack if nothing else. But does the trick actually work? Can you put grapes in the freezer?Freezing grapes is very simple. As my own TikTok video on the subject showed, you literally just need to stick the punnet or bag into the freezer and wait a few hours for the cold air to do its thing.Content cannot be displayed without consent‌You can also take them out of the punnet and lay them out on a tray to prevent them from clumping together, but I've done this trick a few times now and have never had problems with them sticking together. If you're separating them out before freezing, you can transfer them into a freezer-safe bag once they're frozen for easy storage. They keep in the freezer for between three and 12 months, and have a variety of uses, such as being blended into smoothies, used as ice cubes that won't water down wine, and eaten just as they are.Do frozen grapes cool you down? From my experience, frozen grapes absolutely cool you down. Much like eating an ice cream or drinking a glass of chilled water, eating frozen grapes can cool your body from the inside out, thanks to heat transfer and blood circulation.‌When you eat or drink something cold, heat from your body moves directly into the cold water or food that you're consuming, which helps to move heat away from you. Eating, drinking, or applying cold things to areas with thin skin can also cool you down by rapidly chilling the blood as it travels back to your core, which reduces your overall body temperature.Frozen grapes have helped me to quickly reset my body temperature at various points throughout the day, including when I first wake up and feel lethargic from a stuffy night's sleep, and in the mid-afternoon when the sun is at its hottest. How to eat frozen grapesIt's recommended that you leave your grapes for a couple of minutes when you first take them out of the freezer so that they can soften up a little. Eating grapes that have been in the freezer for 24 hours may hurt your teeth if they are sensitive, as the grapes will be very hard and incredibly cold.Article continues belowOnce they've thawed slightly, they end up with a consistency similar to a slushie or sorbet, which makes them delicious without the risk of giving yourself brain freeze. Do not allow them to thaw completely, however, as they can lose their structure and become too mushy. You can use any colour grapes for this hack, but I much prefer using green ones. While I prefer red grapes when they're not frozen, freezing red grapes left them with very little flavour, while the green ones retained a slight sour taste.
