Trump Suggests U.S. May 'End Up Just Controlling' Strait Of HormuzPresident Donald Trump made a stunning claim about the future of the Strait of Hormuz while discussing the latest developments in the war on Iran. "We're taking out all of their [Iran's] capabilities for anything having to do with the Strait, with the Hormuz Strait," he told reporters Monday in the Oval Office. "I think in the end, we will end up just controlling the whole thing." When asked when the war on Iran will end, Trump said, "I think it's going very fast.""We've demolished their military, we're hitting them very hard," he said. He also noted that Iran "broke up" a nearly finished peace deal over the weekend after discovering terms they didn't agree with. "They're wired differently," Trump said. "And we're not gonna put up with it."Latest Live UpdatesMichigan Health Officials ID Potential Source Of Cyclospora OutbreakHealth officials in Michigan announced on Monday that they have identified the potential source of the cyclospora outbreak that has sickened thousands this summer, The Detroit News reported.According to the Michigan Department of Health, lettuce has been linked to the microscopic stomach parasite. Symptoms of cyclosporiasis include: loud and explosive diarrhea, bloating, fatigue, nausea and stomach pain.Read more in The Detroit News:U.S. Military Renews Strikes On Iran After Attacks On Tankers In Strait Of HormuzThe U.S. military carried out a third consecutive night of strikes against Iran on Monday and two tankers came under fire in the Strait of Hormuz, after President Donald Trump said the United States was reinstating its blockade of Iranian shipping in the Gulf and would ensure that the strategic waterway stayed open — for a fee.U.S. Central Command said it began strikes at Trump’s direction just after the U.S. president told the Hugh Hewitt Show that Iran would be hit “very hard tonight, and we’re going to hit them hard tomorrow. And there’s not a damn thing they can do about it.” He later told reporters at the White House that the U.S. was attacking Iranian capabilities in the strait. Soon after, the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Defense said Iranian cruise missiles struck two Emirati oil tankers, the Mombasa and Al Bahiyah, while transiting the southern lane of the strait in Omani territorial waters, killing one crew member and injuring eight others.Read more from Reuters:Trump Goes On Unhinged Rant Against Congressman He PardonedPresident Donald Trump went on a lengthy social media tirade on Monday against a Texas congressman he pardoned last year.“Nobody knows Henry Cuellar better than Donald J. Trump,” the president wrote on Truth Social. “I studied his records, learned about his financing, and listened to his two wonderful daughters beg me to help the mother and father that they love. Their letters were heart wrenching and beautiful, but their father had problems that nobody could solve but me, and the daughters very correctly and respectfully knew that.”Trump added that he never assumed Cuellar would run for office again, but “certainly not as a Democrat,” hinting that the pardon may have been an attempt by the president to shore up the GOP’s narrow majority in the House. He also called Cuellar “a weak and incompetent version of me.”Read more here: Tuberville Says Graham Asked Staffer To Call 911 After Having Chest PainsThe late Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) told a staffer to call 911 after experiencing chest pains shortly before his death on Saturday, Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) said. Tuberville told reporters Monday that one of his staffers was with Graham’s scheduler on Saturday evening when Graham called the scheduler to complain of chest pains and ask that she call 911. “By the time she got there, 911 had knocked the door down,” Tuberville said. “They were working on him.”The Alabama Republican added that he remembers Graham as a hard working senator who rarely took time to rest from the job."Lindsey basically worked himself to death," he said. "If we had a couple days off, he went to that airport and he went somewhere to try to work out something for our country."Alligator Alcatraz Is Shut Down And Cleared Out: ReportThe South Florida immigration detention facility nicknamed "Alligator Alcatraz" has shut down and is now vacant, the Miami Herald reported. Aerial photos published by the Herald show an empty Dade-Collier Training and Transitional Airport, where the makeshift detention center had been operating since July 2025. A bright blue sign outside the airport reading "Alligator Alcatraz" has been removed and industrial tents used to hold immigrants have been cleared from the airstrip, the Herald reported. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) announced last month the facility was shuttering after serving its purpose as a temporary detention center. During its time in operation, the facility faced several lawsuits by civil rights groups who alleged the treatment of immigrants in the facility was inhumane. Trump shrank both during his first administration in 2017, but former President Joe Biden reversed the moves in 2021.“I’m very happy about this, and it’s better than the first time,” Trump said.Utah Governor Spencer Cox (R) argued at the signing that the sizes of the two landmarks do not align with the Antiquities Act of 1906. “It’s very clear that these monument designations are supposed to be the smallest area possible to protect the antiquities, and these multi-million-acre monuments that are bigger than the state of Delaware certainly do not fit that designation,” Cox said. “We definitely care about protecting these antiquities, and will continue to do so. The problem is with these giant monument designations. There are no resources that come with those.”Trump Says U.S. Will Strike Iran's Pickaxe Mountain 'Relatively Soon'President Donald Trump said in an interview on Monday that the U.S. will strike Iran "very hard" tonight and tomorrow as the war drags on.“They're not doing well with their nuclear situation. Every time we hear about it, we blow it up. So they don't like talking about it. But we'll probably give Pickaxe a shot relatively soon,” he said on The Hugh Hewitt Show. Pickaxe Mountain is believed to be the location of a nuclear site in Iran.“We're going to hit them very hard tonight, and we're going to hit them hard tomorrow. And there's not a damn thing they can do about it. They have nothing. They have nothing going [for them] other than they have big mouths,” Trump said. He also accused Iran of breaking deals and of being unreliable. As he signed off the show, he added, “Tell the Iranians to be ready. Let them know we're coming.”Trump Notifies Congress Of War In Iran (Again): ReportPresident Donald Trump has formally notified Congress that the U.S. is at war with Iran, thereby starting a 60-day clock where he can order military action without needing to seek congressional approval.A copy of the July 10 letter, obtained by Politico, says Trump's July 7 strikes on the country were necessary “to protect Americans and United States’ interests both at home and abroad.”For those keeping score at home, yes, this is the second time Trump has notified lawmakers since he entered a war of choice with Iran in late February.Trump earlier claimed the hostilities that necessitated the first military operation terminated in May, and, therefore, this second — announced after a shaky ceasefire with Iran fell apart — is totally different. At the outset of the war, Trump said he expected it would last “four to five” weeks. In mid-April he proclaimed it was “close to over.”Republican Senators Uneasy With Latest Trump Iran GambitSome Republican senators seem uncomfortable with President Donald Trump’s plan for the U.S. military to control the Strait of Hormuz and charge ships that use the waterway. Trump said Monday on Truth Social the strait would be open but the U.S. "will be reimbursed, at the rate of 20% on all cargo shipped, for any and all costs necessary to do the job of providing safety and security."Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.), chair of the Senate Armed Services Committee, said he wasn’t sure what Trump had in mind. “At this point, I have some questions about that," Wicker told HuffPost. "If it's termed a 'toll,' as you characterized it, I don't think that's something that can be accomplished. There's a difference between that and assuring safe passage."Multiple administration officials have previously said it's improper for any country to ask for money in exchange for safe passage through the strait. "No country is allowed to charge tolls or fees on an international waterway," Secretary of State Marco Rubio said last month. Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) remembered Rubio's comments when HuffPost asked about Trump's latest statement. "I recall Secretary Rubio saying that that would not be proper for any country," Cornyn said. "Am I wrong?"WATCH: Senator Lindsey Graham's Final DaysThe late Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham was negotiating Russia sanctions in Ukraine a day before he died of an aortic dissection.See All Updates
