Motorists have been warned of higher fuel prices as conflict in the Middle East drives up the cost of oil.

The AA said the average cost of a litre of petrol has reached 151p, having dropped to a six-week low of 150.7p a week ago.

Average diesel prices stand at 164.9p per litre, a 0.1p uptick over the same period.

Experts warned of worse to come after oil rose back above $80 a barrel, having fallen close to $70 early this month.

The surge in the oil price came as renewed fighting between Iran and the US restricted the movement of tankers through the crucial Strait of Hormuz.
