A 24-year-old woman has been charged by the Sofia District Prosecutor's Office with driving under the influence of alcohol after crashing her Porsche on Sofia's Ring Road early on July 12. The accused, identified as D.A., is the daughter of former long-serving Sofia municipal councilor Orlin Alexiev.
According to prosecutors, the woman was behind the wheel with a blood alcohol concentration of 1.89 per mille, confirmed by an expert examination. Earlier roadside testing had indicated 2.31 per mille in her breath. The incident occurred after she failed to comply with a police order to stop, leading to a pursuit that ended when the vehicle crashed into a guardrail.
The prosecutor's office has launched pre-trial proceedings for driving with more than 1.2 per mille of alcohol in the blood, an offense punishable by one to three years in prison and a fine. Prosecutors imposed a cash bail of €5,000, which must be paid within ten days, and revoked the woman's driver's license. If convicted, she will also be required to pay the equivalent value of the Porsche involved in the crash.
In its official statement, the prosecution stressed that the suspect has no previous convictions, no criminal record, and "has cooperated in the investigation." That account differs from earlier media reports suggesting she had behaved arrogantly toward police officers at the scene.
