Just days after Bigme launched a crowdfunding campaign for a dual-screen smartphone with an E Ink display on one side and an LCD display on the other, Hisense has introduced a phone with similar features.But there’s one key thing that sets the Hisense A10 apart from the Bigme HiBreak Dual: the LCD display for the Hisense phone is detachable. When removed, you have a phone with just one display. But you have the option of sticking a full color LCD screen on the back of the phone when you want it.First revealed earlier this month, with more details unveiled a week later, the Hisense A10 is a phone with a Qualcomm QCM6690 “Dragonwing” processor and a 6.13 inch E Ink display, ships with Android 16, and supports NFC, wireless charging, and has an IR transmitter that lets you use the phone as a remote control.The optional LCD display is a 5 inch full-color screen that magnetically snaps onto the back of the phone when you want to use it, but which can be removed when you don’t. That sets it apart from the Bigme Hibreak Dual, which has a non-removable 5 inch LCD screen.Both phones have the same basic selling point though: you get all the benefits of E Ink including a sunlight-viewable, low-power display that many people find causes less eye strain than LCD or OLED displays. But you aren’t limited to using only that screen. Just flip the device over and you have a full-color display with higher refresh rates that could be a better fit for gaming, watching videos, or just smoother scrolling.Hisense hasn’t provided details about how the detachable screen communicates with the phone, so it’s unclear to me whether it uses a USB or wireless connection, or perhaps pogo pins. But several sources indicate that the Hisense A10 is expected to sell for around $590 when it goes on sale in China. There’s no word on if or when it will be available in other countries.Hisense has been making smartphones with E Ink displays for years, and this isn’t even the company’s first dual-screen model.
