Residents of Portlands, Mitchells Plain, were left stunned as they witnessed a horse and cart, driven by two teenagers, collide violently with the gate.
Witnesses say the horse appeared disorientated from the impact and lay on the ground for approximately 15 minutes before finally regaining its footing.
According to the SPCA, the animal sustained injuries, including a bleeding wound above its right eye.
